Clickbank - Are They Reliable?

Post by PageAd » Sat 05 Aug, 2006 10:17 pm

I have just started using clickbank, well actually I am a newby to affiliate marketing full stop. I'm still getting to grips with adwords and if I understand correctly, if and where my ads are displayed depends on many things, one of which is the Quality of the landing page. I have a campaign that has an average position of 1.1 (which I understand is great) and a CTR of 27%. Unfortunately though, I have a ZERO conversion rate!!! My keywords relate to exactly what the product is but ZILCH ZERO NOOOTHIIING!! Anyway.... I have checked that my affiliate name is on the order form on that website. I emailed Clickbank and asked if they could verify for me if any purchases had been made but not credited to my account for any reason such as code manipulation (or something to that effect) by the merchant. I have received no reply, not even a "we have received your query" response. Has anyone had, or does anyone know of others who have had problems with Clickbank? Thanks all  I hope I used all the right lingo. Please correct me if I got it wrong.

Have you considered buying whatever your product is that you're promoting (if you can get away with a small purchase)? That's often a sure fire way of conifirming tracking's working.

Just because you're getting 27% CTR doesn't really mean much, it may not be the keywords people are using to buy.

Of course there's 1,000's of other things as well such as - maybe the web site isn't very well presented (ie. nobody would buy because it looks amateur), maybe it's something nobody would buy full-stop off the web (e.g. a mattress?) etc etc.

ClickBank is certainly not one of the AM networks I would be spending my time on. In the past they have become known as the cheap end of the market where merchants that do not want to pay anything to use AM go to ....and in my experience when merchants go for the cheapies, then they are not always the most serious players in the market. The affiliate does heaps of work and seldom makes any money, and if you want to turn this into a fulltime business then you do not need that.

Similarly, because ClickBank don't charge what other AM networks generally do - you cannot expect, and will not receive the level of support that you should get - as you are expecting and finding out. Clickbank is likely to have over 100,000 affiliates registered with them, and because the rule is generally that 80% of business is produced by 20% of affiliates, you could be waiting a long time for an email reply.

On average, expect a 1% conversion rate.....don't waste your own money making purchases to check out the tracking, a decent AM network has the facilities to check this themselves, and if they are worth anything this is exactly what they should be doing.

I tried out ClickBank back in 1999/2000 and they still owe me about $60. Would not waste my time again. You are better of staying off with the major players. Do that and you will get the better merchants that are serious about doing business and looking after their affiliates. At the end of the day if you are serious about making a living out of doing this full time, then you need to have the comfort of knowing you are going to get paid.
