Did anybody else get this obnoxious message??

Post by psa777 » Thu 18 Mar, 2010 7:45 am

This is the message I got today from newest member Michael Tracy:
Dear, psa777!

A virus alert was noticed on your computer.
We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately: "his link which i can't post..."
If you do not pass this test we will have to delete your account and forward a complaint to your ISP with attached log file (your IP address, etc.).
I find these messages pretty obnoxious and of the worst kind. If his User Profile is not removed from AffChat I would like to know how I can delete mine, as I see no point in being affiliated with a site that allows creeps like him to stay registered!

Seems we all got it. I deleted it too. I'm very surprised it got through. Had expected better than this from Affchat.

(Same reply below that I posted on previous message)

Argh! It's happened again, obviously this is a new hack that's going around. I've been trying to dig up info on it but my suspicion is they are scraping the 'Memberlist' page and using that to generate the user IDs, then using the userIDs to feed in to a PM script.

If they are just sequentially updating user IDs from 1-2000 etc, then this isn't going to work, but strangely I didn't ever receive a spam message which leads me to believe they are using a scraping technique.

Please let me know if it happens again and I'll have to do something more drastic like move to VBulletin, however as you can imagine that's a week of reading manuals and praying :(
