Becoming an affiliate - how I started, what mistakes I made.

Just a little about myself and how I got started. I currently have established websites of my own, am an affiliate for merchants and manage pay per click accounts for business clients. By the way, if you are ever looking to become a merchant, I would recommend first starting as an affiliate, even if...

Here's one that springs to mind as a free gude - it's a bit waffly and geared to PPC but covers many points. m. Perry Marshall has a few good articles here m as well (but not really an overview which is what you're after at this stage). Once you get the general 'picture' of how you want to market yo...

Hey Helen, Welcome aboard! I just had a look at that ad. The only thing I want to add to it is that it's easy to claim great amounts of income, but you need to often spend money to make money. I refer to her bank statements. I could make $500,000 a month too, but it might cost me $498,000 in the pro...

A simple way would be to send the people to two different landing pages and track the conversions from each page, swapping out the lesser performing page once a month etc. This only works if you're keeping careful statistics on everything. Taguchi based testing might help speed things up, too - chec...

Oh dear, I just realised how ambiguous that sounded. I mean find a program that you know makes you $1 for every $1 you spend on it. ie. you don't make any profit - but you don't make a loss either. We all know them - they're everywhere! Well .. get your favourite credit card that converts frequent f...

Sending traffic directly to an affiliate site is a definite no-no, at the very minimum you want your own memorable domain name (DNS redirect), even better the database or newsletter as you say. I've had many affiliate programs that paid well that had the plug pulled for whatever reason, if that happ...

Watch out for the phone number trick

If you're sending traffic to sites as an affiliate, watch out for sites that include an ordering telephone number on the home page. Easily 50% of your sales could be lost by people that will phone instead of shop online. In such a situation one must always remember that many people are still not con...

Hi John, welcome to the board. Yep, for sure, AdWords are extremely profitable. In fact I found another niche today that I already made one sale on within 2 clicks! To some degree it was luck finding it, but it really does help to stay away from the 'usual' stuff like travel, dating, CD stores if yo...

New AdWords rules and how to get around them

You will notice Google has posted new rules as of today meaning that only one affiliate ad will be allowed per keyword. Firstly, I would say not to immediately modify you add to remove the 'aff' or whatever, as this could move you lower into the queue and stop premium positions being shown if they n...

Ah man $500/$1000 minmimum limits seem pretty steep, certainly would put a few prospective affiliates off IMO. You'd want to be sure you were getting half decent EPC rates for those!

Oh yeah apparently googleguy or someone with ties to Google mentioned PageRank on the toolbar as being way out of date.
